Established sign language interpreting agency serving the greater NYC metropolitan area seeks a charismatic and highly motivated Interpreter Coordinator.

We are looking for an individual who can calmly and skillfully navigate shifting priorities, and feels inspired by the opportunity to fulfill a vital role on a small team.
This is a remote position with fixed daytime hours every week: Monday - Friday from 9:30am - 6:00pm ET.
Primary responsibilities include:
- Evaluating customer requests for completeness and accuracy.
- Identifying gaps in information and following up with customers as needed
- Carefully prioritizing appointments as new ones come in
- Entering appointments into an online scheduling portal
- Identifying and assigning interpreters with the proper skills and qualifications to fulfill customer requests
- Ensuring appointments are always updated with current information and prep materials
- Sending customer confirmations via email
- Offering customer support and resources as needed
- Responding to incoming phone calls and emails quickly and efficiently
- Forming strong relationships with ongoing customers and understanding their specific needs
- Developing strong working relationships with interpreters and other agencies
- Outreach to the interpreter community to grow our team
- Onboarding new interpreters
- Maintaining up to date personnel files
- Other duties and projects, as required
This position will begin as part time (10am - 2pm) and is intended to transition to full time once training is completed (within 4 weeks or less). We are seeking candidates who have interest and availability to become full-time employees within a month. Additional evening and weekend on-call hours are required, based on availability and fairly distributed among the Coordinator team.
SignNexus is a fast-paced agency processing a high volume of requests with care and precision, so Coordinators can expect a busy and engaging work environment. Our Coordinators all work together closely, as a unified team, to make sure assignments are covered with appropriate providers, interpreters and captioners are set up for success in the field, and customers are communicated with in a manner that is effective and respectful every step of the way.
Applicants with a professional interpreting background and/or ASL fluency and/or hands-on ASL interpreter coordinating experience will be given significant consideration. We're looking for individuals with an understanding of the ADA and how it applies to deafness, and familiarity with the professional standards set forth by RID. SignNexus works heavily in K-12 and higher education, City and State government, and the performing arts – previous experience Coordinating in these settings is beneficial.
The right candidate will be EXTREMELY organized, as they will be required to follow specific workflow processes (such as spreadsheets and step-by-step instructions) that require meticulous attention to detail. While collaboratively managing an unpredictable inbox, Interpreter Coordinators must adapt gracefully to a constantly evolving set of priorities.
SignNexus is highly focused on delivering an extraordinary Customer Service experience! Preferred applicants will have a background working in customer-facing roles, and will enjoy building genuine connections with customers, interpreters, and agency staff.
Because we are a fully remote office, qualified applicants must have reliable home internet, a designated distraction-free work space, and should consider themselves tech-savvy. Employees are issued Apple equipment, the ability to skillfully navigate MacOS will be advantageous. Experience with interpreter scheduling systems and customer relationship management software is a definite plus. A working knowledge of the most common video conferencing platforms is required.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree [or] 3+ years of relevant work history
- At least 3-5 years professional administrative experience
- Basic understanding of the Americans with Disabilities Act
- Familiar with Deaf communication modalities and the use of technology / assistive equipment to facilitate communication access
- Strong technical capabilities, with the willingness and ability to quickly learn new software or online systems
- Proficiency with Google Drive software suite, including Sheets and Docs
- Working knowledge of Zoom, WebEx, Microsoft Teams, and other popular video conferencing platforms
- Ability to operate independently with minimal supervision
- Great time management and self-initiative
- Ability to develop consistent and reliable processes
- Exceptionally strong multi-tasking and prioritizing abilities
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills
- Appreciates a challenge
- Background working within the Deaf community, either professionally or as a community ally
- Previous experience as an interpreter or with an interpreting agency preferred, but not required
Chosen applicant will be provided extensive remote hands-on training via video platform. Although you will be full time within a month, the training period itself can be expected to last approximately 3 months and will include immersive on the job experience.

Pay range is $25 - $31 per hour to start. Starting pay is negotiable dependent on the applicant’s previous experience (specifically years of professional experience fulfilling an Interpreter Coordinator role).
