SignNexus sign language interpreters and captioning providers are all individually screened, then hand selected for jobs that best utilize their skill and experience. They are professional, timely, and always available to answer questions or mediate any issues which may arise before, during, and after each assignment. Our team provides resources and guidance for those who request communication access services, and we incorporate cultural competency training along the way. This guarantees an outstanding experience for both Deaf and hearing clients.
ABOUT THE TEAM
Lydia Callis is an RID nationally certified American Sign Language Interpreter from 3 generations of Deaf family. American Sign Language is Lydia’s first language because her mother and three younger siblings are all profoundly Deaf. Growing up at a time when there were insufficient laws to accommodate the needs of those who are Deaf, she witnessed the challenges her family members were expected to overcome to access everyday communication. She began interpreting to help her family communicate and to make sure she stayed fluent in the language of her roots
Lydia founded LC Interpreting Services LLC (now known as SignNexus) in 2014 with the goal of consistently providing high quality, culturally competent sign language interpreters. From decades of experience as an interpreter— first as a very young child, then later in the business world— Lydia knew the diverse needs of the Deaf population were not being met by large multi-language interpreting agencies. She wanted to make it simple for individuals and businesses to ensure they were hiring qualified Sign Language interpreters, while at the same time facilitating deeper, more meaningful relationships with the Deaf, DeafBlind, and Hard of Hearing community.
As a Child of Deaf Adults (CODA) and active interpreter, Lydia endeavors to continuously support the Deaf and interpreting communities in any way possible. She partners with local and national groups to help empower people who are Deaf, and works to educate businesses and organizations about effective inclusion practices for those with hearing loss. American Sign Language is Lydia’s passion and connecting people is her purpose! She is humbled to serve the Deaf community, the hearing community, and the interpreter community through her work with SignNexus.
Kat Brady is our Executive Administrator, and she also fills a number of other roles throughout the day. She holds a BA in Journalism and Mass Communications, with a background in tech and a decade of experience in new media marketing. Kat is passionate about exploring, dissecting, discussing, and actively working to dismantle existing systems of supremacy. She believes in the powers of technology and community to amplify personal experiences and expose injustices. Kat joined SignNexus in 2014 and has been an integral part of the agency from the start.
AP / AR Coordinator
Vicky Foster is our Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable coordinator, and she’s a proud RIT/NTID Graduate. She joined the SignNexus team in 2017, using her highly valuable accounting skills to balance the business end of this company. Born deaf and raised in Okinawa, Japan in a military family, Vicky did not learn ASL until she was 11 years old. Her family relocated to Rochester, NY, the US city with the highest per-capita deaf population, to ensure Vicky had access to quality educational opportunities. Her true passion lies in event planning, a skill she began to hone during her undergraduate years as the Social Director of the Ebony Club on campus. An entrepreneur at heart, Vicky and her partner are founding their own event planning business based in Rochester, NY.
Misty Harwell is our talented Interpreter Coordinator with several years of full time coordinating experience and a passion for her native language of ASL. Misty recently earned a degree in Paralegal Studies from the University of California, and loves attending various classes and workshops to further expand her knowledge. As a person who is Deaf herself, Misty has a deep understanding of the nuanced communication needs of those with hearing loss, and she brings personal expertise to her professional role. She is a proud mother of 4 children and she will always be a “Georgia Girl” at heart! Misty is motivated by connecting people and communicating without barriers. She strives everyday to make a difference in the lives of others. SignNexus welcomed Misty to our team in 2020.
Interpreter Project Manager
Janine Nolan joined the SignNexus team in 2019 as Interpreter Coordinator, utilizing her background within the Deaf community to ensure our team meets the unique and evolving needs of consumers. Janine is a Graduate of Bloomsburg University, where she earned a BS in American Sign Language/English Interpreting. She took her first American Sign Language class at the age of 12, and she was immediately captivated by this visual language. Janine has worked in the field as an interpreter for more than 10 years, and she has extensive experience working with Deaf individuals of all ages and backgrounds in a variety of settings, such as Deaf education and non-profit. When she is not focusing on her career and the Deaf Community, she enjoys spending time with her family and relaxing on the beach.
Selma Deloris has served as the SignNexus Accounts Manager since 2015. She engages with both clients and interpreters to help form productive long-term relationships. Selma holds an Associates Degree in Accounting and specializes in Human Resources for small businesses. She is honored to serve the Deaf community through SignNexus, and hopes to see her children inherit a world where health and happiness are human rights, not privileges.
